Review: Jewelmint

Hello, hello! To jump right in, it will come as no surprise that this post will be on Jewelmint. For those of you that are not familiar with Jewelmint, it is an online, monthly, jewelry subscription service created by Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter. Through the $29.99 monthly subscription fee, you receive 1 credit for a piece of jewelry of your choice among the various selections available for that month. The selection includes: necklaces, bracelets, rings as well as pins. I have purchased products from this company over the period of several months and just wanted to share my input on some of their baubles.

The first thing I purchased from Jewelmint was their "Mystery Bag," which came with two random pieces for the price of one(purchase made in Fall/Winter 2011). My bag included:

Desert Rose Necklace

Lady Noir Rings

Smooth Emerald Green Stone in a Graphite Colored Band

Faceted Smokey Brown Stone in a Graphite Colored Band

The pieces came in black velvet pouches. Usually, when you order individual pieces, they come in mint green boxes. My initial thought upon receiving these items was disappointment because I had expected better packaging and both of the items I received were not items I would normally wear. The description cards were also lacking a bit. However, the Lady Noir Rings have grown on me. I think both the rings have a good weight to them and the coloring of the rings are quite beautiful. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a good way to wear the Desert Rose Necklace...

The next item I purchased was...
Blanc Bomb Ring

I made this purchase after I had forgotten to skip the service for the month. You can usually opt to skip the service between the 1st and 6th of the month. For a "skipped" month, you do not pay a subscription fee. I had been eying the product for a while since it was a remake of the Aqua Bomb Ring(tarnished silver band with blue stones), which I had been eying as well. I do like this ring a lot since it wears pretty well and goes with a lot of different outfits. However, I am a student and would consider this ring to be on the pricier side($29.99).

The next and most recent item I purchased was the VIP Mystery Bag(came out around Grammy time). Mine came with...
 Morning Star Bangle

as well as...

Rachel Rose Earrings

I saw hollyannaeree show how she would style the Morning Star Bangle and thought it looked cute on her. However, in all honesty, I think it looks a bit like a ninja star as well. I think it might look okay layered with other bracelets, but I am not 100% sure how I feel about this piece. I also received the Rachel Rose Earrings. I tried them on and they were okay, but the material felt somewhat cheap. The shade of the stone is a light brown smokey quartz hue. Although the material feels somewhat cheap, on the upside, I am glad the earrings are wearable in that I can pair this set with a lot of outfits.

Overall, I think I am still on the fence about Jewelmint products. Some of their pieces are lovely and of good quality, while others turn out to be lacking. Although I get more "bang for the buck" by purchasing their mystery bags, I do not know if it is worthwhile to continue doing so since I don't have much luck in obtaining the better pieces. All in all, I think Jewelmint would be a fun subscription service if you were looking for unique pieces and had the extra $29.99 to spend, but I would not recommend this to everyone.
